Vaccination Reactions

What to Expect After Your Pet’s Vaccination

It’s common for pets to experience mild side effects after receiving a vaccine, usually starting within hours of vaccination.

Most pets do very well after vaccination and any mild side effects typically resolve within 24–48 hours. Vaccines play an important role in protecting your pet from serious and potentially life-threatening diseases. Thank you for helping keep your pet — and our community — healthy.

Common Side Effects May Include:

  • Discomfort & local swelling at the vaccination site
  • Mild fever
  • Decreased appetite & activity

**If these symptoms persist for more than a day or two, please contact your veterinarian.

Seek Veterinary Care Immediately if These Signs Develop:

  • Itchy skin that may seem bumpy (hives)
  • Swelling of the muzzle & around the face, neck, or eyes
  • Severe coughing or difficulty breathing
  • Persistent vomiting & diarrhea
  • Collapse

**If you suspect your pet is having a reaction, please call your primary veterinarian or take your pet to the nearest emergency veterinary hospital.
